"The Birds"

The Birds bear down me early in the park. Taking night in before it's on its way out. Feathers flocking out across the sky I seem something brewing, deep at first - but not stopping.

Gotta slow steady course.. steeming through the wind and rumbling under the earth. The wavy of change takes by force un-heeding and keeping with the wind of time.

Smiling to myself under a stretching sun, peeking to me over on the edge.. and it's gone for good.

Crossing Barriers through the thick and thin - skimming over the horizon and chasing after sunlight wrapping around the edge of the earth. We've got darkness on our tail and if you look out the right side of the aircraft you'll see a gnarly mess closing in on us...

Don't know exactly what it is, but it appears to be growing at a rapid rate. Don't worry you should be fine crossing to the other side. Insurmountable odds never worried me, and I've flown countless times. It's just a matter of letting your feet of the ground ... that's the hard part.

Next you have to get past your fear of never coming down. Once you've flown so far, it's hard to think about looking back - and walking seems unimaginable.

Put on its stand - waiting for Johnny Shotgun Lewis to binge out of the bar. Bathing in the dusty air outside the saloon... the wooden doors would be rickedly torn open by the bodies of men who messed with John.

Burning rubber on another slip from the law - for a man on the other side of the tracks, it's a rare thing to happen on a loyal friend.. Accountability for the escape - nothing but two wheels and a couple of horses under your skin. It's gotta be the open road...

Back at the apartment where he could lay low, months drew by ... as escaping became a distant memory, the winds changed - and out of the mountains came memories of the past; drifting on and spun around out of sandstorms. Little things cary life with them
... and nothing ever dies.

Only the evidence of the sun can burn-in records of past events. And it was these exact burnt-in rocks that were left out in the desert . . no reason to ever go back, but there was one thing comforting about the waterless plains.

In the desert you will start anew.

Red beady-eyes fixed on the highest spike of land, nudging up to declare itself.. and cut the wind wide open. All things come full circle though; and hearts of darkness can only linger in the storm-clouds for so long.

After the bulb burnt out Mr. Jenkins ran out of ideas. He blamed his age, but truth be told, he just gave up on life. Nothing new ever came out of a closed door - and resignation had swallowed the key.

Things fire up in the night as Stan revs the engine - everybody sliding down the poles and into their gear. Some one's smattered on Sepulveda ... Town's been painted red. "This thing came outta no-where!" - murmurs from the streetlookers are almost downing out the sirens as Stan steers around the corner, hoping for the best. Deep down he knew that there was a job to do, and experience had this nagging feeling pitting in his stomach.. "Doesn't matter how long you've been doin' this .. It's always different, and you can't never expect nothing but the worst."

Even though they were on the scene, and made good time getting there - no amount of fire trucks could put the wreckage right... and back together again. The fire engine red blended with the scene. Foot-hurt people stretched their legs back home - weary of the midnight hour calamities, bent on getting some reason back in their lives. Wondering why these things happen.

... there are no answers in the red city; sleeping away under a yellowblanket haze

The boy told his grandfather that he saw the forest trees looming when nobody was looking. "They're always looking ... always looming", rasped his grandfather, "but most people aren't paying attention." Something in the way the trees moved scared him but he found peace in his new vision.

This was the reality of things - both classically sentient and not so perceivable. Communication came only through consciousness and the forest spirits invaded his dreams from time to time ... inviting themselves with chilly-skin sensations in his waking hours.

Mostly they were just passing through, enthralled, as we are - in our own existence.

They bought the overgrown brick house on Dirt St. Nothing seemed overly odd about the place except for the roof shingles. They had an organic ordering that could only be linked to witchcraft. The roof never leaked on the Witch House - it was as if the shingles were constantly growing into perfect protection from the rain. Needless to say maintenance was not required.

I would say "Because" ... that is good enough for me. Most might not agree though, but maybe they need answers more than some. More structure, more sense; something to make them feel at ease in a world where your own meaning is all you get.

To beautify the world.

To make people look up - and be mesmerized out of their lives (for a second.

To decrease the dull drab and uninspirational infrastructure.

Balcony barrage in Waikiki, running along the coastline are the megalithic resort-structures. People flock to these poked out perches to overlook the sea, and sip in the sunset with lovers on their laps. Nothing short of the extravagance that the locals once knew long ago from the mountain-tops ... not much space for a luau on a balcony though.. - the fire dancers need space to do their thing.

Balconage is a barrage of balconies; cutting the seaside with square easements and metal-gated edges. When nature takes back the oceanfront, this will all be but a washed up seashell - snagging some-ones foot, picked up with an interested eye ... maybe wondered about where it came from, and what slimy sea-creature once inhabited it.

The folk come out and about at night, only - sometimes till two or three. The town howling out its own humming tune over the crisp night air.
